This test method is used for the determination of Sulfur compounds in natural gas and gaseous fuels by gas chromatography (GC) with pulsed flame photometric detection (PFPD). Below is a complete list of Sulfur compounds that Capco Analytical Services, Inc. test for on a regular basis.

Testing for Hydrogen Sulfide, Carbonyl Sulfide, Methyl Mercaptan, Ethyl Mercaptan, and Dimethyl Sulfide.

Source Common Sulfur Compounds
Sewer and Wastewater Treatment Facilities Hydrogen Sulfide, mercaptans, dimethyl sulfide
Landfills Hydrogen Sulfide
Petrochemical Refineries Hydrogen Sulfide, carbonyl sulfide, carbon disulfide
Odorants of Liquid Propane Ethyl mercaptan, dimethyl sulfide
Pulp and Paper Mills Hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan, dimethyl sulfide
Composting Facilities Hydrogen sulfide, ethyl mercaptan, dimethyl sulfide, methyl mercaptan
Live Stock Activity Hydrogen sulfide, dimethyl sulfide, carbonyl sulfide

Collection, Shipping and Analysis

Since many sulfur compounds are not stable in stainless steel canisters, such as Summa canisters, air samples for this analysis should be collected in Tedlar bags.

Due to the unstable and reactive nature of many sulfur compounds, full compliance of the method requires analysis of the samples within 24 hours of collection. Despite this short holding time Capco Analytical Services, Inc. receives samples from all over North America and performs analysis within holding time on a daily basis.
